Sandra L. "Sandy" Shelton, CPA
Sandy is a founding officer and a shareholder of Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A. She began her career in public accounting in 1985, and before that, worked for a major insurance company in mortgage backed securities. Sandy graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has earned her Certificate of Educational Achievement in Business Valuations. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. She is also a licensed agent for life and health insurance and Medicare supplement and long term insurance in North Carolina. Sandy works with business owners and individuals, assisting them in all areas of finance, including financial accounting and planning, business valuations, real estate, tax planning and preparation, budgeting and advising. She has worked on valuations for businesses in settling shareholder disputes, managing divorce situations, determining values for estate purposes, and advising in the purchase or sale of a business. She has earned the trust of her clients because of her experience in her field and dedication to meeting their needs.
Sandy serves on the boards of various not for profit organizations. Her current affiliations include: Industries of the Blind Inc., Preservation Greensboro Development Fund Inc., Society of Financial Service Professionals, Carolina Theatre of Greensboro, PT Crew, and others. Mark K. Nelson, CPA
Mark joined Craven Shelton & Gann, P.A. effective January 3, 2012. He has 25 years of experience providing a full range of assurance and tax services, as well as transactional services, to clients across multiple industries, including manufacturers, distributors, insurance companies, financial services companies, technology companies, publicly held business and non-profit organizations.
Prior to joining the firm, Mark began his career in the Triad, before moving to Charlotte, with a national firm working his way up to partner-in-charge of assurance services for the Carolinas and more recently working with a regional firm as audit partner-in-charge for their Charlotte office. Mark received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pfeiffer University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). While living in the Triad, Mark was a member of the American Home Furnishing Alliance (AHFA), served on the board of the High Point Boys and Girls Club, served as the president of the Board of Directors for the String and Splinter Club, and treasurer of Young Home Furnishings Professionals. Carolyn Bass, CPA
Carolyn holds a North Carolina CPA license and has been in accounting for 22 years, 18 of which have been with Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A. She is a graduate of Meredith College, with a degree in Business Administration, and UNC-Chapel Hill, with a Master's in Social Work.
Carolyn works primarily on audits, and partnership and individual tax returns. She is an avid tennis player and enjoys traveling and spending time with family at the beach. She has two grown children: Justin, a sous chef, and Lindsay, an attorney in Raleigh. (NC CPA #23809) cbass@csgcpa.com
Melissa Craig
Melissa is the Business Division Manager at Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A. Her responsibilities include preparing business and individual tax returns, as well as providing support for our business clients. Melissa is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in English, and has been with Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A., for 14 years.
In her free time, she enjoys reading and taking motorcycle rides with her husband, Kenny. Their four dogs keep her busy during the off season. mcraig@csgcpa.com
Brenda Gordon
Brenda has been the Administrative Assistant with the firm since 2002. She holds a certification in Human Resources Management and has worked in the accounting environment for over 20 years. In addition to her official responsibilities, she provides any needed support to all our clients and staff. Brenda has three grown children and five wonderful grandchildren, Christopher, Lindsay, Emily, Hanna, and Harrison. Among her many interests are collecting antiques, gardening, fishing, and writing gospel songs. In her free time, she volunteers at West End Ministries Food Pantry, Oak Hollow Thrift Store, and In-Touch Worldwide Ministries. bgordon@csgcpa.com
Janice Kirkpatrick
Janice became a part of the firm in August 2006. She is a native of North Carolina, graduating from UNC-Charlotte with a degree in accounting. Janice is the Office/Business Manager at Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A. and is responsible for all of the behind-the-scenes activities. Her 20 years in accounting and attention to detail make her an integral part of the firm. In her free time, she enjoys playing bridge, reading, and interior decorating. Julie O'Brien
Julie, an enrolled agent, has worked in tax preparation for over 25 years and has been with Craven, Shelton & Gann, P.A., since 1998. She specializes in individual taxes and prepares trusts and estate returns. Julie also provides our clients with year-end tax planning. She is a member of the North Carolina Society of Enrolled Agents. Julie is an avid cook and enjoys word and math puzzles. jobrien@csgcpa.com
Laura Staunton
Laura has been with the firm since 1990. She has over 20 years experience in accounting and payroll, and also prepares individual and business tax returns.
